Quiet = Clarity

You and I are extremely complicated. You want to eat; you want to lose weight. You want to take more chances; you are afraid of taking chances. If you are tired of living in the midst of these conflicts, I have bad news for you: it is part of being human. We like to think that the voice in our head is in charge, but it ain't. "You" are a community of many different systems, and they don't always play nicely together. Let's agree on a few things... We are doing our best. We are only human, and we make mistakes. Learn from your mistakes, and don't make the same ones repeatedly. But recognize that mistakes come with the territory of being human. We see the world through our own biases and preconceptions; that is not going to change. What can change is the degree to which we open ourselves to other ideas and experiences. Talk respectfully to people who disagree with you. Travel outside your country. Read books that argue a different perspective than your own. Volunteer on a farm, or in an inner city. Attend lectures. Go to art shows and exhibitions that make you a bit uncomfortable. And one more thing... that voice inside your head is only pretending to be you. Ignore its chatter and look deeper, far deeper. The quieter you become, the more clarity you gain.
